Contract Killer Review

Contract Killer is a Freemium game by Glu.   Unlike most freemium games, Contract Killerdecides to go for a more hands on approach, giving the player a chance to be the hitman, with some sniper scope action.

Like in most freemium games you accept different missions. These missions cost energy and then once completed, reward you with cash and experience.  The cash can then be used to buy in game weaponry to makes your contracts easier. Each of these missions take place in a 3D environment.  You are a contract killer positioned on top of a building and you must kill your target.   In a first person mode you aim your gun looking through the scope, line up the shot and then tap the fire button.

The contracts are satisfying and despite all being minor variants, it takes a long time before these missions get old.  Players must wait a few minutes after depleting their energy before they are able to take part in another contract, preventing the novelty from wearing off.

The gameplay is basic but more involved than most freemium games.  Targets at first go down easy but after a while deal more damage and take more shots to put down.  Your target can escape and if you shoot a civilian you will fail, meaning that you have wasted your energy and that you must try again another time.

A nice element is the upgraded thugs that help out the enemy mobsters.  As you progress in the game the thugs get harder and wear more body armour and equip bigger guns, some even wearing masks that negate headshots from the front.

In terms of drawbacks the games AI is predictable and the same bosses faces do get a little old, it wouldn't have taken much to put a few more in the mix.  After seeing the same bald headed thug a few hundred times things start getting tired.  After you hit level 20 the game continues but the developments stops with no real conclusion.  This is a little disappointing as the story missions are what keeps the game fresh and interesting, it is also the only time in which you see new character models and get to shoot different people.

Contract Killer is worth a download and it will hold your interest for a while, whether that is a week or a couple of months it is worth the non-existant price tag.
